What to Know
On Sunday Detroit takes on Dallas at 1:00 p.m. Detroit isn’t expected to win but seeing as the odds didn’t stop them last game, maybe the squad has another upset up their sleeve.

Detroit had a rough outing against San Francisco two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Detroit took down New England 26-10. No one put up better numbers for Detroit than Matthew Stafford, who brought his A game into the match. He passed for 262 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Dallas came up short against Seattle last Sunday, falling 24-13.

Detroit’s win lifted them to 1-2 while Dallas’s loss dropped them down to 1-2. If Detroit wants to win, Detroit will need to focus on stopping Dallas’ Dak Prescott, who passed for 168 yards and 1 touchdown, and Ezekiel Elliott, who picked up 127 yards on the ground. We’ll see whether or not they are up to the challenge.

The Jacksonville Jaguars believed they made a statement by avenging their AFC Championship Game defeat in Week 2, only to fall flat in their next contest.

The Jaguars (2-1) look to pick themselves up after their first loss of the season when they complete a three-game homestand against the New York Jets on Sunday at TIAA Bank Field.

Jaguars vs Jets Live NFL Football

Jacksonville has done itself proud following losses during head coach Doug Marrone’s time on its sideline, posting a 7-1 mark.

“The key to doing it is we had a productive Monday,” Marrone said of avoiding consecutive losses. “You can never say good day after a loss.

“We had a productive Monday where we looked at things and were able to address some of the things we need to get done, execution-wise, the football, the penalties, all the things that contributed to us not performing as well as we should. Coming in with a mindset of really being focused, really putting in the work and preparation. I have always said this and I truly believe it: ‘You have to put in the work and you have to put in the preparation, but you can’t make the mistake of not understanding that it is a performance-based business and you have to do it on Sunday.'”

The Jaguars mustered just 232 yards and 12 first downs in last week’s 9-6 setback to the Tennessee Titans without running back Leonard Fournette, who has missed two straight games with a hamstring injury.

Blake Bortles completed 21 passes for just 155 yards passing versus the Titans. Should the versatile Bortles match his completion total on Sunday, he would surpass David Garrard (1,406) and move into second place on the team’s all-time list.

The quarterback receiving more buzz is found on the opposite sideline in rookie Sam Darnold, albeit the news hasn’t been positive since the 21-year-old’s impressive debut in the season opener against the Detroit Lions. The third overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft is tied for the league lead with five interceptions — with two coming in New York’s 21-17 setback to the Cleveland Browns in Week 3.

“We’re on to Jacksonville this week,” Jets head coach Todd Bowles said in a bid to turn the page. “The Cleveland game is a distant memory for me.”

Darnold will face a stingy Jaguars secondary, led by All-Pro cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. Both of the Jaguars corners likely will play tight man-to-man coverage against the New York wideouts.

Isaiah Crowell had a pair of touchdown runs against his former team last week and is tied for the league lead with four rushing scores. Fellow Jets running back Bilal Powell had a career-high 190 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown in his last encounter with the Jaguars — a 23-20 overtime win by New York.

Keeping the Jets running game in neutral will be one of the tasks faced by defensive end Calais Campbell, who said the season’s first quarter would be acceptable if the Jaguars win Sunday and post a 3-1 mark in the first four weeks.

“The goal is to win enough games to win your division and have your shot at the playoffs,” said Campbell, who collected a pair of sacks, five tackles, including three for loss, and two quarterback hits against the Titans.

“We break the schedule down by quarters and if you go 3-1 each quarter, that will put you in position to go to the playoffs. We’ve got to put this loss behind us and move forward from here. Good teams don’t lose two games in a row.”

Defensive tackle Malik Jackson echoed those sentiments. He said there was a huge difference in going 3-1 compared to 2-2.

“I believe in breaking the season down into quarters as well. You can’t look at the big picture; you have to look at small pieces,” Jackson said. “But it’s a huge difference going 3-1 from 2-2; it’s the difference in going from a great start to an average start. Hopefully we can go 3-1, that’s what we’re shooting for, but we’ve got a good team in front of us so we’ll see.”

Jaguars tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins likely would agree after spending last season with the Jets. The 25-year-old has reeled in three receptions in each game this season for the Jaguars and expects to play despite nursing a core muscle injury.

Bills vs Packers

The Packers and Bills will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET with Buffalo looking to upset a second successive NFC North team on the road. After shocking the Vikings as 17-point underdogs, the Bills are now 9.5-point dogs against the Packers at Lambeau Field, down from an opener of 10.5. The Over-Under for total points scored is 44.5 in the latest Packers vs. Bills odds, up from 44.

Before you make any Packers vs. Bills picks, be sure to check out what SportsLine’s advanced computer model has to say.

Bills vs Packers Live NFL Football Games

SportsLine’s proprietary computer model went 176-80 last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Office Pool players in 2016 and ’17. It also performed better than 98 percent of experts tracked by NFLPickWatch.com during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks against the spread last season, and $100 bettors who followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

It also nailed its two top-rated picks in Week 3, including backing the Ravens (-5.5) against the Broncos. It’s now 7-2 on top-rated picks this season, extending its run to 55-36.

Now, the SportsLine Projection Model has simulated Packers vs. Bills 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you the computer slightly favors the Over in this matchup, but its stronger play is on the spread, saying one side hits in almost 60 percent of simulations.

The SportsLine model has taken into account the Bills’ stunning upset of the Vikings as double-digit underdogs and the Packers slipping up against the Redskins last week. Now both teams are entering Sunday staring down a potentially defining moment.

Aaron Rodgers already has had to battle through injury again this season, but he’s still been outstanding, with 832 yards passing, a 66.4 completion percentage, six touchdowns and no interceptions. The model expects him to have another big Sunday, projecting nearly 250 yards and two touchdowns.

But Rodgers’ big numbers don’t guarantee that the Packers will be able to cover this spread against a Buffalo team coming into Week 4 with a ton of confidence. The Bills have already slayed one NFC North team on the road, so heading to Lambeau shouldn’t faze them.

The Bills made the switch to rookie quarterback Josh Allen in Week 3 and it paid immediate dividends as he delivered a three-touchdown performance (one passing, two rushing) against the Vikings. The model is calling for Allen to account for over 200 yards of total offense again this week as Buffalo looks to build on last week’s performance.

Cowboys vs Lions

The Dallas Cowboys will play host to the Detroit Lions at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Both teams are 1-2 and desperately need to win to boost their postseason hopes. The Cowboys are 3-point favorites after opening at 3.5, while the over-under for total points scored has held steady at 44. The Cowboys are -145 on the money line (risk $145 to win $100), while the Lions are +125 (risk $100 to win $125).

Cowboys vs Lions Live NFL Football Game

Before you make any Cowboys vs. Lions picks, you need to see what SportsLine’s Projection Model has to say.

Their proprietary computer model went 176-80 last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Office Pool players in 2016 and ’17. It also performed better than 98 percent of experts tracked by NFLPickWatch.com during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks against the spread last season, and $100 bettors who followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

It also nailed its two top-rated picks in Week 3, including the Ravens (-5.5) against the Broncos. It’s now 7-2 on top-rated picks this season, extending its run to 55-36.

Now, it has simulated Lions vs. Cowboys 10,000 times. We can tell you that the model is leaning toward the Under, but its much stronger play is on the side. It has generated a point-spread selection that should hit better than half the time, and that pick is available at SportsLine.

The model knows this game is the proverbial must-win for a pair of NFC clubs that are hoping to overcome sluggish starts and contend for a playoff berth. The Cowboys (1-2) have seen their sputtering offense serve as the primary culprit in their two losses, sandwiched around a home victory against the Giants. They generated only 303 yards of total offense in a 24-13 loss at Seattle last week. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 127 yards, but Dallas consistently saw drives stalled because of its inability to convert in the passing game.

On the bright side, the Cowboys’ defense held Seattle to 295 yards and limited Russell Wilson to 192 passing yards. They also held the Giants to 255 total yards in a 20-13 victory in their only home game of the season thus far. Dallas ranks No. 3 in the NFL in total defense, allowing 17.7 points and 281 yards per contest.

Just because the Cowboys have shown signs of life on defense doesn’t mean they’ll cover on Sunday.

The Lions (1-2) appeared to turn the corner in last week’s 26-10 prime-time upset of the defending AFC champion Patriots. First-year coach Matt Patricia defeated his mentor, Bill Belichick, as Detroit took command from the outset and never let New England threaten. The Lions’ defense allowed only 209 total yards and one touchdown while dominating time of possession.

Matthew Stafford threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns against one interception. Detroit’s long-dormant running game broke out for 159 yards, led by rookie Kerryon Johnson (101 yards on 16 carries).

Stanford vs Notre Dame

College football doesn’t get much better than when top-10 teams clash. That’s exactly what’s on tap Saturday when the No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the seventh-ranked Stanford Cardinal. Kickoff from Notre Dame Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. The Cardinal are coming off a heart-pounding overtime thriller against Oregon, while the Irish routed Wake Forest. The Fighting Irish opened as 3.5-point favorites and are now laying 5.5 in the latest Notre Dame vs. Stanford odds. The over-under, or total number of points Vegas believes will be scored, has ballooned from 50 to 52.5. Before you lock in your Notre Dame vs. Stanford picks, be sure to check out what SportsLine college football expert Emory Hunt has to say.

Stanford vs. Notre Dame Live NCAA Football

Hunt is the founder of Football Gameplan, which has been supplying analysis of all levels of college football since 2007. Loaded with decades of college football expertise, including playing running back at Louisiana-Lafayette, Hunt is an incredible 7-2 in his previous nine picks against the spread involving Stanford. Now, Hunt has scrutinized Stanford vs. Notre Dame from every possible angle to reveal a strong point-spread pick that he’s revealing only at SportsLine.

Hunt is well aware that Stanford quarterback K.J. Costello, who had been inconsistent this season, is coming off an outstanding performance in Eugene. The junior signal caller was 19 for 26 for 327 yards and three touchdowns last week against Oregon. For the season, he has 1,056 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes.

Heisman hopeful running back Bryce Love was back on the field against the Ducks after missing the previous game against UC Davis with an undisclosed injury. Love has yet to show off his dynamic play-making abilities this season. He has 59 carries for 254 yards — just 4.3 per carry — and two touchdowns, well behind the pace he set last season. But he did show some of that amazing spark in Oregon with a nifty 22-yard score that helped rally Stanford back into the game.

Notre Dame’s offense showed plenty of life under new quarterback Ian Book, who was nothing short of spectacular against the Demon Deacons. He completed nearly 75 percent of his pass attempts for 325 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for three more scores as part of his 43-yard rushing performance. Book got plenty of help from the backfield tandem of Tony Jones Jr. and Jafar Armstrong. The two backs combined for 137 rushing yards and three scores against Wake.

We can tell you Hunt is leaning toward the under, but he has uncovered a crucial x-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s only sharing it over at SportsLine.

Oregon vs California: Offensive and Defensive Numbers

The 19th ranked Oregon Football team kicks off this evening against the California Golden Bears, the 24th ranked team in the nation. Here are all the numbers you’ll need to know for today’s bout.

Oregon vs California Live FOOtball

Obviously, Oregon has the edge here. California certainly isn’t the air-it-out and spread style team that the Ducks are. Oregon, behind the cannon of starting quarterback Justin Herbert, has the second most passing yards in the conference at a shade over 300.

Rushing Yards per Game:

Oregon once again has the numbers advantage in this phase of the game. Behind a constantly rotating committee of running backs, Oregon can give defenses a myriad of looks on the ground game. California, on the other hand, is another good running team. I know they average less yards than Oregon, but they can’t be taken for granted — quarterback Chase Garbers included. You have to remember, this team has played overall stiffer competition than the Ducks.

It’s no secret that Oregon has the more potent offense of the two. With certain future Sunday regular Justin Herbert taking snaps, and CJ Verdell and Tony Brooks-James behind him, and Dillon Mitchell out wide, this Oregon offense has a plethora of weapons — enough to give any team fits on defense. If Oregon is firing on all cylinders, the Cal offense will have a tough time keeping up.

Here’s where the number begin to favor the Golden Bears. Their secondary has been sturdy and reliable thus far, but hasn’t faced a passer as elite as Herbert. Oregon’s secondary, on the other hand, has been a rather disappointing aspect of the squad. They cannot let Garbers get comfortable today.

Preview
The Rebels offense is a good test for the LSU defense. Shockingly, the Tigers are ranked 55th in the nation in total defense this season. They have allowed 244 yards through the air per game this season, a total that was inflated thanks to the 330 allowed in a 38-21 win against Louisiana Tech last week.

Orgeron understands the Rebels are one of the best pass offenses the Tigers will face this season and is preparing accordingly.

“They are very explosive on offense, very hard to stop. Jordan Ta’amu is an excellent quarterback and he fits their scheme perfectly. He’s an accurate passer and he is a very good quarterback. He is a better drop-back passer than we’ve seen.”

Orgeron emphasizes how not only Ta’amu is dangerous, but so are the threats on the outside.

“They probably have the best set of receivers that we are going to see all year. A.J Brown and D.K Metcalf are both going to be in the NFL and both are outstanding receivers. We are going to have our hands full with this offense.”

Through four games, Ta’amu has 1,359 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. As of now, he is fifth in the country in passing yards – 76 ahead of Missouri quarterback Drew Lock for No. 1 in the SEC.

On the flip side, junior quarterback Joe Burrow has predominantly been a game manager for LSU so far this season. Burrow has not been as efficient as Ta’amu, but avoided turnovers and led key drives when the Tigers needed him to, including the game-winning drive against Auburn on the road. He has completed 49% of his passes – 124th in FBS – for a total of 731 yards and three touchdowns.

A non-conference showdown of top-20 teams looms Saturday as the No. 11 Washington Huskies host the No. 20 BYU Cougars at 8:30 p.m. ET. Current Washington vs. BYU odds show the Huskies as 17-point favorites, the same as where the line opened, while the total has moved to 45.5 after opening at 44. Each team enters Saturday with a 3-1 record. Washington is 2-0 in the Pac-12 with impressive victories over Utah and Arizona State, while BYU seeks a second impressive road victory after shocking Wisconsin at Camp Randall. Before you enter your Washington vs. BYU picks, check out what SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh has to say.

BYU vs Washington Live NCAA Football

The renowned co-founder of AccuScore, Oh simulates each game 10,000 times using the SportsLine projection model. And he is already crushing his college football picks in 2018. Moreover, he has had a particularly keen eye for the tendencies of the Cougars, as he looks to build on an impressive 4-0 record in picks involving them over the past two seasons.

Now, Oh has crunched the numbers and generated a strong point-spread selection for BYU vs. Washington, which he’s sharing at SportsLine.

Oh knows the Huskies opened the season with a narrow 21-16 loss to Auburn in Atlanta, but have since shut down their competition. Even in a narrow 27-20 victory over Arizona State, the Huskies held the Sun Devils to just 231 yards of offense.

Washington quarterback Jake Browning has completed 61 percent of his passes for 966 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions this season. His best game was his last outing, when he completed 15 of 22 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns against the Sun Devils.

Washington’s defense also returned nine starters from a squad that allowed only 19.9 points per game in 2017. This season, that number has dropped to 10.3. It held ASU to just 67 net yards passing, thanks in part to seven sacks. Senior linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven, who led the team with 84 tackles last season, registered 20 tackles against the Sun Devils, the most by any Huskies player since 1996.

But just because Washington has been hot doesn’t mean it will cover a huge number against a BYU team that went into Camp Randall Stadium and knocked off Wisconsin just two weeks ago.

Oh also knows that except for a blowout win over McNeese State last week, BYU has played in three one-possession games. The Cougars came out ahead in two of them, winning 28-23 at Arizona to open the season and shocking No. 6 Wisconsin 24-21 in Week 3.

Like Washington, it’s BYU’s defense that ensures the team has a chance in the end. The Cougars allow just 328.3 yards per game, ranking 29th nationally in total yards allowed. It’s no shocker, as the team returned six of its top seven tacklers, including Sione Takitaki (five sacks last year) and Corbin Kaufusi (six). The Cougars’ defense is allowing just 17 points per game, down more than a touchdown from a year ago (24.7).

Oh has analyzed this matchup from every angle and while we can tell you he’s leaning under, he has discovered a crucial x-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s only sharing it at SportsLine.
